7 Amazing Things You Can Do With 3 Acres in Naples

7 Amazing Things You Can Do With 3 Acres in Naples

by Magdevys “Maggie” Rodriguez       October 20, 2026

Most Naples homes sit on a quarter acre or less. Golden Gate Estates is different: lots here are measured in acres, and 3 acres in Naples gives you room for the pool, the shop, the guest house, the horses and the boat, with no HOA telling you what you can park or build. Here are seven things buyers do with that much land, plus the practical facts about wells, septic and permits that come with it.

1. A real pool and outdoor living, with yard left over

On a typical Naples lot, the pool and lanai take up most of the backyard. On 3 acres, they’re just one part of it. You still have open lawn for kids, dogs, a fire pit or a future addition. Florida requires a safety barrier around residential pools under the Residential Swimming Pool Safety Act, so plan for fencing or other approved features.

2. A guest house for family or visitors

Extra land is what makes a separate guest house possible. It’s one of the most common reasons buyers look in the Estates, for parents moving down or for visiting family. There are county rules on size, setbacks and use, so read my guide to building a guest house in Golden Gate Estates before you plan one.

3. A workshop or a big steel shop

Contractors, mechanics, boat owners and hobbyists want covered space at home. Acreage gives you room for a detached garage or steel building and a drive to reach it. Here’s what to check first in my guide to Estates homes with a shop.

4. Horses

Much of Golden Gate Estates is zoned in a way that allows horses, which is rare this close to town. Fencing, shelter, drainage and county rules all matter. My horse property guide covers what to look for before you buy.

5. Room for the boat and the RV

With no HOA, you can keep a boat, trailer, RV or work truck at home instead of paying for storage. County setback rules still apply. See my roundup of the best Naples options for boat and RV owners.

6. Gardens, fruit trees and room to play

Raised beds, mango and citrus trees, a playset, a putting green, a dog run. On a small lot you choose one. On 3 acres you can usually have most of them.

7. Privacy

Distance is the feature people don’t expect to love as much as they do. With hedges and trees along the property lines, neighbors are far enough away that the yard feels like your own park.

What comes with 3 acres

  • Well and septic. Most Estates homes use a private well and a septic system instead of city water and sewer. Florida sets rules for septic systems, including how far they sit from a well, which affects where you can add a pool, shop or guest house. Here’s what to check on a well and septic home.
  • Permits and zoning. New buildings need county permits, and what’s allowed is set by Collier County’s Land Development Code. My Golden Gate Estates zoning guide explains the basics.
  • Flood zone and fill. Where you can build, and how high, depends on the flood zone. Check it early with my Golden Gate Estates flood zone guide.
  • Upkeep. Three acres of lawn means a riding mower or a lawn service. Budget for it.

Featured home: 6341 Green Blvd

My listing at 6341 Green Blvd is a good example of what 3 acres can look like. It sits on 2.96 acres of cleared, usable land in Golden Gate Estates, south of Pine Ridge Road, with a pool already in place and plenty of room left for a shop, guest house, garden or horses. It’s offered at $1,600,000:

  • Four bedrooms and two and a half baths in about 2,200 square feet, with a split-bedroom plan and a dedicated office or flex room
  • An open kitchen with granite countertops, stainless steel appliances and a breakfast bar, flowing into the dining area and living room
  • A primary suite with a walk-in closet, dual sinks, a jetted tub and a separate shower
  • A private pool and open lanai, with fencing and a privacy wall
  • Concrete block construction with a tile roof and a two-car attached garage
  • No HOA, horses allowed, and a private well and septic system

Schools for the address are Vineyards Elementary, Oakridge Middle and Naples High. Shopping, dining and the beaches are a short drive away. Moving here full time? Here’s how the homestead exemption works.
